Uh, that’s Rev. Lovejoy’s church from The Simpsons. I couldn’t remember the name though, so I looked it up, and found that the name isn’t specified ever in the show (neither is the denomination.)
I hope that at least your American readers recognize this… as I haven’t had a TV in my residence for over 10 years and I do!
Maybe i’ve seen one or two Simpson’s episodes…probably when some kids I was around had it on.
I think I’d rather assemble at Moe’s than in that architectural monstrosity.
Tom
I love this scene in the recently-released Simpson Movie where the EPA helicopters are about to place a huge dome over the town. The local lake has become a toxic hazard thanks to Homer’s stupidity. As the dome is being airlifted into place, the parishioners from the church (led by the minister) run out and look into the sky; and the patrons at Moe’s do the same. When they see what’s happening, the frightened church-goers run into Moe’s (I’m assuming they must think a good stiff drink will help calm their jitters) and the equally-shaken bar patrons run into the church building (thinking they might ought to get right with God). Hilarious! By the way, the “Reverend” leads the mob into the local bar. What a hoot!
I have to agree with Bill above. This is my FAVORITE part of the movie. The scene is just dripping with irony.
